Overview
Nestled in the hills of Pembrokeshire and on the border of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is Bluestone National Park Resort, a 5* luxury, eco-friendly holiday destination for families. Comprised of holiday lodges and cottages, as well as restaurants, cafes, activity areas and spa, Bluestone recently invested in the addition of 80 new holiday lodges and new reception/welcome lodge, totalling 81 units.
Concept
The appointed contractor S J Roberts Construction Limited in Welshpool was looking for a low-maintenance alternative to timber cladding that would still provide the finish of a natural material and blend harmoniously into the abundant surrounding landscape. Hardie® Plank cladding from James Hardie provided the perfect solution due to it’s high-quality natural timber finish, low-maintenance requirements and 15-year guarantee.
Alfiam Building Supplies are a gold level premier distributor of the James Hardie products, stocking all 21 UK colours at their depot in Surrey, making them a fantastic option for S J Roberts to partner with to source and supply the required cladding. It was this experience and the long-trading history with the manufacturer which enabled Alfiam to be confident they could support a logistically challenging project.
James Hardie provided a full take-off for all the lodges, including the selected Cedar cladding boards and accessories for the 80 lodges. Seven different colours were chosen, including greys and browns, to give the different lodges a unique identity, whilst complementing the natural shades of the surrounding greenery and woodland. Alfiam was provided with the various plots of the development and what colours and fixings were required, enabling them to organise all of the materials in line with the delivery schedule.
Project completion
The site provided Alfiam with a delivery schedule for all the plots in advance for a nine month period, allowing the Alfiam team to ensure each plot could be prepared a week before collection, including being shrink wrapped and marked up accordingly for ease on site. The Alfiam team worked closely with Owens Transport in Bridgend who would collect on the first Friday on the month, decant the trailer in their yard on Friday afternoon, hook up to another lorry and deliver to the Bluestone site on Monday morning. The details of each vehicle was provided to the contractor who were able to book them in with Bluestone, ensuring a smooth and efficient delivery process.
The project has been completed to an impeccable standard, with the clean and modern timber-look weatherboard planks providing a high-quality finish.
Unlike traditional timber cladding, the Hardie® Plank range comes complete with the ColourPlus™ technology, a multi-coat, baked-on finish that is fade resistant and doesn’t require regular sanding and repainting. For peace of mind, the Hardie® Plank products are made from an advanced fibre cement material and hold an A2-s1, d0 fire rating backed by BBA certification (04/4147).
