Vinyl flooring is made up of 8 layers that combine to create a durable material that is dent and scratch resistant:

A performance coating that resists stains and scratching
A clear vinyl layer to prevent wearing
A decorative layer with your selected design
A soundproofing layer
A compact layer to absorb contact
A lightweight body layer to increase bounce
A glass fibre layer for strength
An attached underlay to stabilise and balance the plank

We’re big fans of both laminate and vinyl flooring, supplying and stocking both. Both options are durable, attractive and easy to install but differ mostly when we look at that they’re made from.

There are more layers to a vinyl floor which can make them more soundproof and softer underfoot however laminate’s four layers include a high amount of natural, repurposed wood, which could be considered more sustainable.
