However, through our manufacturing partners we can create brick slips at varying thicknesses between 20mm and 65mm. Additionally, through our strong relationships with multiple brick slip fabricators, we can offer brick slips that are cut from - or mimic - almost every brick on the market. Due to their 100% clay content, brick slips themselves are inherently non-combustible. We can also supply eco slips and purpose-made slips that are certified as carbon neutral. - ## Brick Slip Panels A brick slip panel can refer to a wide range of brick slip and substrate combinations that are prefabricated off-site before being delivered to your project ready for installation. This prefabricated method has many benefits, including quality control, cost efficiency and quick installation. This can be particularly beneficial for projects on tight construction timelines as these key elements can be removed from the critical path. As well as external installation, brick slip panels are suitable for internal use and can be a great way to bring the beauty of brick indoors. - ## Brick Slip Systems A brick slip system typically refers to a cut or purpose-made brick that is mechanically fixed to steel rails for an attractive and consistent finish. Brick slip systems are commonly used on mid to high-rise buildings as well as on refurbishment and reclad projects. Lighter than traditional masonry, brick slip systems are also often thinner, allowing space for insulation and great thermal performance. In recent years, there has been growing demand for brick slip systems for smaller, internal domestic projects. Brick slips are a beautiful solution for a number of interior brick applications, including feature kitchen walls, rustic fireplace surrounds and internal chimney breasts. Alternately, you can continue your external brickwork internally by using brick slip cladding across the majority of your domestic space. There’s also no need to demolish existing walls when using a brick slip system. Brick slips are a thinner version of a facing brick used to create the appearance of brickwork but with alternative benefits. Brick slips can either be cut from an existing brick or they can be purpose-made to fit a brick slip system. How to install brick slips? Brick slips can be installed in a number of ways; as individual brick slips, as brick slip panels or within a brick slip cladding system. If you're installing your brick slips to a small internal area, you may be able to apply them to the wall using an adhesive or mortar. For larger applications and for high-rise projects, a more formal backing structure will be required such as GRC panels or steel railings. As with standard-sized bricks, you will need to point your brick slips with mortar to complete the facade. If you are using prefabricated cladding panels, this may be carried out off-site as well. If you are installing the brick slips yourself, once they have been installed, you should use a mortar gun or pointing bag to fill between each joint. Then use a pointing tool to compress the mortar and create your desired joint profile. How thick are brick slips? Many brick slips are sold as 20mm brick tiles however, depending on your requirements, we can provide brick slips in thicknesses between 20mm and 65mm. Are there sustainability benefits to brick slips? Brick slips offer many sustainability benefits due to the fact that you're using less material to create the slip. By using slips over a traditional brick, you can get two slips from the same manufacturing process. Two slips will then cover twice the amount of facade space without increasing transport requirements. The thinner format of a brick slip also means a lighter cladding system that reduces the load on a supporting structure. This slim format also produces a thinner wall build-up that you can utilise to create a larger floorplan or to incorporate a thicker insulation, offering further energy savings after installation. Like bricks, brick slips are made from the same natural materials and with some of our purpose made options, are certified carbon neutral.
