An interview with our Commercial Manager: Gareth Williams

Gareth has recently joined the Architectural Facades team as our Commercial Manager.
Today we're welcoming Gareth to the team and exploring how his new appointment will benefit our customers and their projects.
Hi Gareth, welcome to Architectural Facades! First things first, can you tell us a bit about your facades background and what you’ll be bringing to the team?
For the past 35 years, I have been involved in the estimating, design and project management of cast stone, pre-cast concrete and natural stone projects.
This work has spanned several high-profile, exciting schemes such as the 02 Arena and the Bloomberg Building in London.
Architectural Facades has a reputation for delivering design-led, technically challenging facades, was this what made you want to join the team?
Yes, this was part of the reason but what also makes Architectural Facades different is that they supply a complete system package. I wanted to join the team because, rather than just the facing material, we are in control of the whole system, including the design and the fixings.
This means we can give our customers confidence and assurance of the product as well as how it’s fixed to the building.
Can you tell me about your role as our Commercial Manager and how this will benefit our customers?
Although budget levels may vary, all projects are price-driven to some extent or another. With my background estimating bespoke projects, I know there are always options in how a system is provided and priced for.
One of my functions is to give the customer the best value solution, in line with their architectural requirements and our company profitability aspirations.
What are some of the biggest opportunities or challenges you see in the current facades market and how do you plan to help our customers navigate them?
There are some fantastic opportunities in the future of the facades market, especially where sustainability is concerned. In the new year, we’ll be officially launching our brick cladding solution which will have the potential to really make an impact for our customers.
We have some large clients already interested, so the challenge will be managing the supply in the quantities required. Thankfully, we’ve got the combined resource of Brickability behind us, so this shouldn’t be a problem.
What’s one thing that you think clients (or even colleagues) will notice about your style or leadership early on?
I think they’ll notice that I will not give up. I will always try to maximize any opportunity to provide a profitable outcome for the business whilst achieving a cost-effective solution for our client base.
Finally, what are you most excited about as you get started in this role?
I’m most excited by the potential to take the great work that Justin and Jess have already done, and between us, really take Architectural Facades to the next level.
Thank you for your time, Gareth! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Architectural Facades and our clients.
