Project Overview
The Turnberg building at Salford Royal Hospital is a modern addition to the site’s wide-range of patient-focused facilities and was an early part of the wider plan to remodel the Salford Royal NHS Trust’s estate.
Day Architectural have been the lead architects on many of the Trust’s projects over the last 10 years and worked closely with the LBT Brick and Facades team to specify both the Soladrilho terracotta cladding and facing brick used on this project.
Design to Completion
Now home to three cutting-edge operating theatres, the design team sought an equally modern aesthetic for the project facade. The LBT Brick & Facades team were more than pleased to discuss a range of brick and cladding options, putting forward the Soladrilho terracotta cladding as an excellent solution for their cladding requirements as its versatility allows designers great design freedom.
Following a review of samples provided, the design team chose to specify the terracotta cladding tiles in a classic salmon colour. To break up the fascia and to add visual interest, the team then selected two different tile finishes: a smooth tile and a 9mm ridged tile, the latter of which was used as a central band across the facade. Thanks to Astley Facades who expertly installed the product.
To complete the build and complement the contemporary cladding and large-scale glass window, LBT supplied the Staffordshire Slate Blue Smooth bricks. This smooth wirecut option provides sharp, clean lines to achieve the required aesthetic while the slate colour successfully matches the metal cladding and other facility fixtures used.
