Overview
Nestled within the leafy market town of Thame, The Crescent is a landmark residential development by Rectory Homes that combines high quality materials with luxurious architecture.
Comprising 23 four- and five-bedroom villas over two detached crescents, the development has taken inspiration from curvilinear architecture often found only in Bath, Edinburgh and London. The Crescent was designed by Yiangou Architects and reworks this historic curved design by combining it with contemporary features suitable for 21st-century living.
Working with Yiangou Architects and Rectory Homes, Brickability were asked to consult on the brick selection for this exceptional project. After several design meetings, the Leicester Multi Cream bricks from Ibstock were specified.
Design Concept
In addition to drawing inspiration from Georgian and Regency-era crescents, the architects sought to sensitively update Oxford’s traditional architecture with modern facade materials. A key part of this modernisation was achieved through the use of natural stone on the front elevations of both crescents.
Specified in a pale buff, the stone porticos create a striking yet contemporary centrepiece for each of the homes. These wide openings not only create a feeling of modern grandeur, but they also leave room for individual balconies that artfully balance the induction of natural light whilst maintaining residents’ privacy.
To complete the project’s remaining elevations, the design team sought a second material in a similar colour palette to provide harmony and subtle variation to the stone. Facing brick was the natural choice for this goal as its traditional character and the wide variety of tones available meant there would be an exact brick to fit the projects requirements.

Project Completion
Brickability was proud to support The Crescent project through the supply of facing bricks that combine heritage style with modern performance. The Leicester Multi Cream brick has a warm cream colour and a softly sanded texture, which combines to create a facade that feels both historic and new.
To complete the site, communal green spaces and a wide number of tree species have been planted to support biodiversity and provide an enhanced living environment for future residents.
