Project Overview
Lambton Park is a landmark residential development set within the historic Lambton Estate in County Durham. Delivered by Miller Homes as part of a wider restoration plan, the scheme introduces a collection of traditionally inspired family homes designed to complement the architectural heritage of the estate.
Brick Services worked closely with Theakston Land and POD Architects to secure the specification of two Wienerberger bricks, Retro Mayfair Stock and New Montana. These bricks were chosen for their warm tones, gentle texture and heritage-appropriate character, all of which were essential in creating a neighbourhood that blends seamlessly into its historic surroundings.
Design & Specification
Lambton Park required a material strategy that could deliver modern performance while respecting the aesthetic qualities of the Lambton Estate. Early involvement allowed the Brick Services team to support the design process by identifying brick options that aligned with the vision for a refined, traditional architectural language.
The Retro Mayfair Stock was selected for its red-brown variation and stock-brick character, offering movement and depth to the facades. The New Montana brick introduced a complementary buff and cream tone, allowing the design team to create subtle contrast between house types and architectural elements. Used together, the bricks provided the richness, harmony and authenticity that the site demanded.
The architectural detailing across the development is equally important to its distinctive character. A range of brick arches frame front doors and windows with precision, while carefully aligned band courses and projecting brickwork features contribute to the rhythm of the streetscape.
Project completion
Stephen Bryden from Brick Services played a key role in securing the specification on this project, offering early-stage expertise and guidance on brick selection, colour variation, mortar compatibility and detailing. His involvement also helped the design teams implement the detailed facade features that are now central to the development’s identity.
The development has since been recognised at the BDA Brick Awards, winning in the Housing Development (2–100 units) category, demonstrating the value of careful material curation and facade craftsmanship.
Now complete, Lambton Park looks on towards the next phase of the development where Brick Services will once again offer their support to create homes that sit beautifully within the historic estate setting.
