    Overview

One Centre Square forms part of the Centre Square development in the heart of Middlesbrough. Offering 4,589 square ft of Grade-A, BREEAM Excellent office space, the building has access to city-scale amenities and provides top-grade facilities for global businesses.

The team at Brick Services worked with the client, Ashall Property Ltd, and the main contractors at Clark Degnan and Bowmer & Kirkland Ltd to provide bricks from their exclusive range and brick-faced soffit and lintel systems to the project. These products were selected to help it meet its sustainability and energy efficiency ambitions.

    Design Concept

There were two main considerations for the construction of One Centre Square; that it should create an ‘attractive public realm’ and it should be designed to the highest industry standards for sustainability and energy efficiency.

The vision for the development was to provide a civic centrepiece that contributes to Middlesbrough becoming the dynamic heart of the Tees Valley. It was designed to be aspirational, desirable and somewhere that people are naturally drawn to. A peer example to this project is Sheffield’s Peace Garden, which created a well-connected public space that displayed ‘a contemporary twist on the steel traditions of Sheffield’. Therefore, it was essential that One Centre Square be an attractive space, welcoming of the public. The planned design also took into consideration the geometry and proportions of the nearby Law Courts, thereby creating a contemporary neighbour for the existing architectural styles within the square.

The exclusive bricks provided by Brick Services for the project were selected for their visual appeal and their high-quality, sustainable properties, which helped the developers and contractors achieve their design vision.

    Project Completion

For the project at One Centre Square, the team at Brick Services provided bricks from their exclusive range: the Lanzarote Black and Artico White. Both products were supplied in a variety of cut and bonded brick specials to help achieve points of interest in the facade. Our brick manufacturing partner strives to meet high environmental commitments, which made their bricks an ideal choice for this development. They also aim to create visually exciting products, a quality that aids the Centre Square development in creating an attractive space that would appeal to the public.

In addition, Brick Services supplied NEXUS brick-faced soffit and lintel systems. These systems allow architects and engineers to deliver visually stunning buildings that can appear to challenge normal structural principles. The BBA approved Nexus system not only added to the impressive design at One Centre Square, but its ease of handling and lightweight structure made it more sustainable, efficient and easy to install.

One Centre Square provides British Council for Offices (BCO) best practice design and has an EPC A rating.
