Project Overview
Standing on the site of the former Yorkshire Post headquarters, The Headline is a prominent new landmark in central Leeds. This 18-storey residential scheme by The Harris Partnership delivers 242 apartments, forming part of the city’s wider Wellington Place regeneration.
Central to the developments visual character, are the gorgeous red multi facing bricks specified and supplied by Bricklink. While echoing Leeds’s rich architectural history, these striking bricks help to deliver The Headline’s new modern identity and a new chapter for this riverside location.
Brick Selection
From the earliest design phase, Bricklink’s Leeds team worked closely with The Harris Partnership to interpret their architectural vision and translate it into a viable brick specification.
To find the right brick, the team delivered a range of samples and advised on mortar colour to maximise each brick’s visual character. The chosen Montana Stock brick embodies the project’s fusion of heritage and modernity while the light mortar colour matches the reconstituted stone banding used at regular intervals across the project elevation.
Supplied via Weinerberger, the brick’s warm red tone is mixed with areas of darker and lighter shades, capturing the organic variation found in the city’s Victorian warehouses and civic buildings. The lightly creased texture also creates a surface rich in depth and tactility, a quality that responds beautifully to daylight and gives the elevations a crafted, authentic feel.
Project Completion
Beyond finding the right brick for the project’s aesthetic, Bricklink’s role was to ensure it performed consistently and could be supplied reliably to a tight city-centre site. By utilising an established supply network, this reliability was assured, and brick deliveries were kept on schedule.
The Headline’s concluding facade demonstrates how thoughtful material selection can unite context and contemporary design while aligning with the practical demands of a construction programme.
