Alfiam Cruise into New Project

Never ones to back away from a challenge, the Alfiam team navigated every logistical obstacle to deliver building materials via a palace and a waterway!
When a customer approached Alfiam with plans to build on an island in the Thames, the team knew this was no ordinary project. With lorries banned on the island and the only water access located beside Hampton Court Palace, the challenge was officially set.

The island itself has royal origins, created by Henry VIII, and enjoys stunning views of Hampton Court. The customer, who owns a river cruise business, was drawn to this location for obvious reasons – what better way to get to work than by stepping straight out of your front door?
The first logistical hurdle to jump was gaining permission to load a barge outside the Palace. The second hurdle was organising all deliveries to take place during a specific period during the summer when lower water levels made the island more accessible.
Thanks to the perseverance and collaboration of all involved, permission was eventually granted by the Hampton Court Guards and deliveries were allowed to progress under the watchful eye of a special security team.

Over the last few months, several barges have been loaded from outside the Palace, delivering Millboard decking, timber and plywood, concrete blocks, insulation, plasterboard and fully waterproof Blue Staffordshire facing bricks.
This was a massive undertaking for the Alfiam team and a testament to their commitment to delivering the very best service for customers. Watch out for the final project pictures – coming soon!
