Alfiam Building Supplies Support Home-Start UK this Christmas.
Prior to joining Alfiam Building Supplies, Samantha, part of the Alfiam marketing team, took a break from corporate life and used her spare time to give something back to her community. After researching several charities, Home-Start UK stood out as being a great opportunity for her to lend a small hand but make a big difference.
Based across the UK, Home-Start is a local community network of trained volunteers and experts that help support families with young children through their challenging times. Now working in 71% of local authority areas across the UK, Home-Start volunteers were able to support 43,692 families and 78,900 children in 2023, to transform their lives.
After signing up as a Home-Start volunteer, Samantha was matched with a blind lady and two small children, from her local area. The 2 hours she gave each week made such a difference. She taught one of the children to ride a bike, took the Mum out on shopping trips, spent time doing crafts with the children, read stories, helped book holidays and carried out general IT administrative tasks that we all take for granted. Samantha gave full support to the Mum, giving her a necessary break while doing many things she was unable to do herself due to the loss of her sight.
In addition to Samantha’s wonderful work, the wider team at Alfiam also wanted to give something to their local community this Christmas, resulting in the idea to donate gifts to Home Start families, so they could really enjoy the festive period despite what else may be going on in their lives.
The team launched their ‘Give a Gift’ campaign over social media and via posters in their trade counter. They also invited colleagues at Brickability Bracknell to get involved. The campaign was a great success, with babies through to 4-year-olds receiving toys and games from Santa himself at the annual Home-Start Guildford Christmas Party.
