# GRP

GRP stands for glass reinforced plastic and it is frequently used for cladding panels, canopies, dormers or window and door surrounds.

Also known as fibreglass or glass fibre reinforced plastic, this material utilises continuous glass fibres within a polymer or plastic, to achieve improved durability, plus compressive and tensile strength.

As with other glass reinforced products, GRP materials are much more lightweight than their non-reinforced counterparts. This is because the added fibres offer such increased strength that less material is required overall.

For standard or bespoke GRP products, please speak with our teams who can assist with design, specification and technical guidance before supplying a quote a ensuring your products are delivered on site exactly when you need them.

## Your questions answered

What is the difference between GRC and GRP?

While both GRC and GRP are reinforced by glass fibres, the key difference is the material that the glass fibres are adding strength to: GRC is glass reinforced concrete and GRP is glass reinforced plastic.

This difference will therefore affect appearance and the ways in which they’re used. GRP is typically used externally as roofing, canopies and door surrounds while GRC is used to imitate natural stone as cladding or for decorative uses.

Both materials are lightweight and durable, benefitting customers as less material is required when using these products in contrast to their non glass reinforced counterparts.

Is GRP the same as fibreglass?

Yes, GRP or glass reinforced plastic is the same product as fibreglass.

It is also sometimes referred to as a composite plastic or as a fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) however these terms can also refer to plastics that are reinforced by fibres other than glass, which is not quite the same as the product we supply.

Is GRP waterproof?

Yes, a key benefit to the GRP product is its waterproof nature, which makes it ideal for eternal use and especially in places such as roofing, canopies and dormers.

If you’d like further technical information on our GRP products, please give us a call and we can send details across.

Can GRP be recycled?

Yes, through professional and purposeful recycling locations, GRP is fully recyclable, in fact it is 100% recyclable according to the European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA). Recycled GRP can go on to make fuels and reclaimed fibres.

GRP also has a long lifespan of 50 -100 years, depending on its conditions, so will afford any project with low maintenance and durability benefits for many years before recycling is required.
