The masterplan aims to deliver 777 new energy-efficient homes to the area by the end of 2024, with a total of 363 affordable houses and 414 private sale. ## Concept The design vision for this project was to create a 20-minute neighbourhood where residents have the ability to meet most of their daily needs from within their own community. Phase three provided the area with 315 houses that vary from social rent, mid-market and private sale options. The development was constructed on a brownfield site south of the A90 with easy access to the M8, making it an ideal location for professionals working in Edinburgh’s city centre. The location provides residents with local amenities such as supermarkets, hospitals, schools, and banks. ## Project completion Our [Bricklink](https://brickability.co.uk/businesses/bricklink) team worked closely with the architects to specify and supply the Snowie Heritage Common Dragwire and the Forterra Village Harvest Multi used across the development. These bricks were chosen to bring a modern touch to this high-quality, traditional housing development. The lighter brick was used as a feature along the ground floor facade close to the entrance, plus on the mailboxes for the apartment building and by the front door on a few of the town houses. Since the masterplan began, it has created 60 new jobs and apprenticeships, plus 180 work placement opportunities. The scheme will also continue its commitment to the local community throughout phase four. Furthermore, it has been awarded with prestigious awards such as The Scottish Property Awards City Regeneration Project of the Year 2016, RICS Regeneration Award 2016, Considerate Constructor Award (Silver) 2015, Saltire Society Scotland Commendation 2019 and Homes for Scotland Commendation 2019. - The choice of facing brick for this large scale regeneration project, was one of the most critical decisions to be made by the architectural team. There had to be a significant level of visual consistency across all of the phases in order to create a legible character throughout the wider regeneration area; something that was previously lacking in the existing mismatched variety of architectural styles and finishes. Working very closely with Bricklink and reviewing specification, visual quality, robustness and budget, we were able to select a shortlist of bricks for the first phase that then set the precedent for future phases. With the final phase now moving towards completion, it is clear that the choice of brick has been successful and generates a clear style and character for this new large neighbourhood, providing a sense of identity and place.
