Originally constructed in 2015, the building needed to be updated following the introduction of the Building Safety Act 2022. Working with Castles Special Projects, [Brick Services](https://brickability.co.uk/businesses/brick-services) supplied 1,000sqm of [Hardie® VL Plank Cladding](https://brickability.co.uk/cladding/fibre-cement-cladding/hardie-plank-fibre-cement-cladding) to meet regulation requirements while also providing aesthetic and maintenance benefits. According to section 2 of the [Hardie® VL Plank Cladding BBA certificate (04/4147)](https://brickability.co.uk/uploads/documents/Hardie-VL-Plank-BBA-Certificate.PDF), when installed on non-combustible substrate, the product is ‘not subject to any restriction in building height or proximity to boundary as defined in the national Building Regulations’. ## Design & Specification The project team wanted to refresh the cladding while maintaining the original timber-look aesthetic. To achieve this, they selected [Hardie® VL Plank Cladding](https://brickability.co.uk/cladding/fibre-cement-cladding/hardie-plank-fibre-cement-cladding), which features a surface texture that closely resembles natural wood. The chosen colour, Anthracite Grey, offers a sleek, contemporary finish that does not fade over time. In contrast to the timber cladding, which had become muddied after a decade of use, Hardie® VL Plank cladding is supported by ColourPlus™ Technology, which means it’s multi-coated, providing a lasting and low maintenance finish. The team ensured timely deliveries and provided ongoing technical support throughout the reclad process to ensure this essential upgrade was delivered and installed to manufacturer guidelines.
