In today’s construction landscape, there are many material choices to consider depending on your project requirements.

So, while clay bricks remain a time-tested favourite for their natural beauty and enduring popularity, we’re putting forward concrete brick as a versatile, high-performing alternative for specific applications.

## Rethinking the common concrete brick

Traditionally, when people think of a concrete brick, they think of the common concrete brick, a simple, non-aesthetic choice made for structural purposes.

However, as construction demands have evolved, so have concrete bricks, which are now much more widely available in attractive and varied finishes. While these bricks still offer consistent sizing and great compressive strength, the new design flexibility means they should be seriously considered for architecturally ambitious projects.

## Why use concrete bricks?

We like to think of concrete bricks as a modern complement to your existing material options. They’re ideal when you need:

- A clean, contemporary look
- High structural performance
- Predictable product quality
- Compatibility with other materials
- A range of design finishes
- Low maintenance brickwork

## Concrete vs clay brick

It’s a common question for a reason, but the answer is that concrete and clay bricks have different strengths for different needs.

While clay bricks bring traditional character, natural color variation and legacy of reliable performance, concrete bricks offer:

- Higher compressive strength
- Enhanced fire and acoustic performance
- Controlled moisture absorption
- Greater uniformity in size and shape

It’s not about which is better, it’s about which is right for your project. If one is right for this project, the other might suit your next – or you may want to combine them for use on a single scheme.

By understanding the strengths of each, you can make smarter, more efficient material decisions that meet your specific requirements.

## Concrete brick vs concrete blocks

A final point, because it does come up – what is the difference between concrete blocks and concrete bricks?

The main difference between the two is their dimensions and their subsequent applications. Concrete bricks are smaller and denser making them suitable for facades where aesthetics and strength are both important.

Contrastingly, concrete blocks are larger with varying levels of density and are ideal for quick, cost-effective construction on a large scale. They are, however, not necessarily the most aesthetic choice and often require a secondary facade material over them.
